SLOW FOOD YOUTH NETWORK UGANDA FARM HERO
Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) Uganda is working to motivate young people who always dedicate their time and keep it at the farm. In this, SFYN Uganda is awarding outstanding youth who have worked hard to improve the food system through practicing sustainable agricultural practices. Each month one youth is chosen on merit basing on the work they always do towards the initiative. These can be farmers, agronomists, researchers, fishermen among others who can inspire other youth in changing the food system.
The youth farm hero nominations for SFYN Uganda are going on. SFYN Uganda team moves around the country in search of the eligible youths who can be awarded as the youth farm hero. These can as well be nominated by other SFYN Uganda members and the selection is done by the executive committee of SFYN Uganda. These youths can either be selected from the existing youth groups or they can come from the isolated localities. These are also engaged.
SFYN Uganda asks all the members to participate in the nominations farm youth hero. The nominated youth should actively be engaged in sustainable agriculture which can be arable farming or animal rearing (birds). SFYN Uganda is to visit their farms in order to establish the level at which a particular youth is ready to participate in these annual Slow Food competitions.
In the name of changing our food system, SFYN Uganda does this activity in order to engage the youths of the country in agribusiness projects which are sustainable and embrace the Slow Food philosophy of good, clean and fair food. The youth who emerges the winner (whose farm is the best) in terms of diversity, arrangement, organic agri-system, and at least a considerable system of record keeping is awarded as well as his or her farm being uploaded online throughout the year for visibility purposes. More benefits to arise…
